My Friends... We need Change.... Online Election Campaign Review 2008
The subprime and financial crisis have made the 2008 election so much important to us. We even can`not take off our eyes on it. Today, I would like to review their election campaigns for you in another demension of two team`s abilities. Website Interactive If you visit Senator Obama`s website, it will welcome you with his lovely family photo with a sign up invitation. This is absolute a great idea if you want to more interaction with your supporters. When you visit the McCain`s website, you may also see a section like this, but the main different point is the other section like "why McCain" has also attracted your attention. Let`s talk about bounces rate, If the visitor are the same, the bounce rate will be the same, so Obama`s strategy is right: to focus on acquire visitor permission for further communication when John only offers a section for that. Maccain`s website is just "too many cooks spoil the soup" Website focus after the sigh up: Obama`s website focus on publish his ideas, why John focus on attacking Obama`s credibility. If you visit Obama`s website , you will also find a section about the State , which will push you the related content that you may interest. John has a section for segment the visitor by their`s conception: supporter , Undecided Un registered .. to push content to you. Friendly speaking, I think use the Geo targeting is best way to segment the visitor, since different regions have different concerns on the nominee`s political promise, for example, a Alaska voter may be willing to learn more about your environmental policy on dealing with the global warning issue. Why Michigan citizen will like to listen your point of view of economy policy and tax cut solution. SMO strategies. Obama`s website has lots of web2.0 application, such as YouTube widget, blog mark, facebook. But as a part of SMO strategies, Obama`s website has lots of widgets for the supporter to post on their email . blog , or in the social network. What other thing can has much more impact on your preference when they claim Obama`s policy? Yeap, it is absolute a perfect SMO! McCain? Only has the email invitation! You may also realize that Obama has opened its facebook, my space account, the YouTube earlier when he started the campaign with Hillary. PPC AD "Federal election records show that the Obama campaign has spent $5 million on Google, although some of that went for traditional display ads. The McCain campaign's ad expenditures are harder to track, but based on the volume of its online advertising, its tally reaches into the millions as well." Said by washingtonpost report. I am sure that Obama`s ppc Campaign has launched the placemant ad via Google adwords, which also has GEO targeting and day parting function to optimize. The Geo targeting also can interact with the website database. For example, they can invest more in New York State if they found their NY traffic is low. It also make sences to use the rich media to get more awareness. Campaign Focus If you build a site, you must has a purpose, Obama`s purpose is clear: to public his political idea and get more voter. John may be only try to get more voter without any focus on what is core of his idea. “Change” we need is the solan we meed every where in Obama`s site, but do you see reform / prosperity / Peace at John Mccain`s site lots ? Can you buy some t-shirt with his words on the store ? It is a very serious question for Jon for his web is just a Bald of mass information without any refine. Email campaign. John sent me more email that Obamba. Obama`s email just keep the same tube with it`s site while only one email is try to clarify Obama`s identity after John`s team release an email about ACCORN. After all, as talk on the Late Show with David Letterman: " John will always say " on my friends ......"", I would like to say "Oh my friends , we have a little change on 2008`s election. We can use internet to learn more today".
