Lightinthebox.com Review: What is the Light in the box?  

 

Recently a company called Lightinthebox is listed on the search enquiry of Wholesale and China Wholesale in Google. Lots of people are very keen to lean more about it since it has listed above costco.com, the largest wholesaler in USA. Today we will show you a tour on this mystical wholesale website.

Where it comes from and is it legal ? Is it a fraud or scam ?

Lightinthebox is a China based company, it has its head offices in Beijing, the capital of China. Also it has a branch in Shenzhen, a city near Hongkong. (Shenzhen is a giant in the Global electronic market, all the iPhone, iPod are made there). The branch focuses on sourcing product and ships to the client once they get your order on line.

Lightinthebox is legal, not a fraud or fishing site at least. First they have Google payment gateway, Google checkout, which you can see easily on its AdWords ad. The merchant who applies google check out are only limited to merchant has US OR UK bank account. So your money is still under the watch of  the USA bank.

Who are they? what they sell? When I make deals with them, am I deal with an unknown seller ?

In fact, lots of frequent visitors may know that we have reviews on another Chinese wholesale company called DHgate, a very popular wholesale marketplace for eBay seller. when you make deals in DHgate, you are making business with its sellers. However, It is completely different here in lightinhebox.com. Lightinthebox is a merchant. It means you are doing business directly with them. You can complaint directly without any 3rd party handling and transferring. One of my friends has buy a lot of goods from this company, he confirmed with me that all the products were shipped from a same address in Shenzhen. I also had enquired about their souring and logistics process. It seems that  they have their own warehouse and they will check the products before they send them out.

How about the products? Especially the iPhone?

Lots of people will found lots of iPhone listed on lightinthebox. In fact, I think that it is only to attract your eyes. The real available products are those copied iPhone, Hiphone? CNET phone, Xphone....These copied iPhones are really crazing and cool for the outlook which is the same with Apple Iphone, what is more, they have more advanced functions, such as you can shake it to receive a call or to change the song playing. They are made of cheap microchips from Taiwan but all the functions are just a little slow working than the authentic iphone. You should never expect those copied iPhone has wifi function and would work like the real one but you can still surf the wap.

The other products are cool with competitive prices. But just like other China wholesaler, you should never expect that the brand items are direct from its OEM factories.

Can I buy from them if I am a common shopper?

Lightinthebox are focusing on the wholesaler and dropshiper market. Their products have wholesale prices. However, most of the products are available for comment shopper. But if you could see the "wholesale only" mark in the item listing pages, You can`t buy it for single item.

Dropship issues

If you are looking a better sources for ebay business or replace Doba or worldwildbrand.com, Lightinthebox may be your answer because it do support dorpship world wide.

Payment Issues

Are there any different in its payment process? I found it is the same as the other online shopping website in USA. If I do not tell you it is from China, some may think that they are buying from a copied overstock for some of its interface do look like overstock.

Return Policy and Dispute

Ha ha, I am still working on this issues, not much data online can be reviewed. So I decide to buy a product and request a refund and return. X`max is a season to return products, I will update in the next few days for the result. Just keep your eyes on our lightinthebox review.

At last,Light In The Box, really do not know why they name it so long, but it is very easy to remember, isn`t it ?

I ordered my bridesmaid's dresses from them. The dresses came back in record
time but as opposed but what was supposed to be a size 4 dress looked more like
a size 0 and for a floor length dress the actual dress stoped above the ankle
i have been trying for the past 5 days to initiate the refund process
and i can't seem to get anyone on the phone. You can never get an answer on the
customer service number listed on their site and when they did respond via
email; their grammer was HORRIBLE! and it was obvious that communication is a
MAJOR issue with these people. I only went to their site because of the cheap
prices but at the end of the day you pay for what you get. I spent $453 on those
dresses and now here i am about to spend another $500 to get dresses that

So yes I would call your bank and speak to the people in the card
department tell them that you need to remove the charge from your card once you
are able to have them do that call customer service cancel your card and order a

Ordered a wedding dress from this company and am super disappointed! It
looked nothing like the picture, was damaged and dirty and do not except

This is a horrible website - the dresses are poorly made, and all of
the material is cheap polyester, and looks horrendous. They completely ignored
me when I requested a refund (the dress I ordered was advertised as a satin
dress, once I received it was obvious it was cheap polyester, and not even the
same colour I ordered!). All the review are a complete fabrication. I have
tried posting a review stating that the information on the dress I ordered is
incorrect, and the dress is not made out of sating, and, of cource, this was not
posted as a review. Horrible place to buy from and the quality is definitely not

First off, most companies that ship dresses do so inside out. That is a common
practice. With regards to purchasing jerseys, they are counterfiet ... if you
didn't receive them then perhaps you should consider that fact that it may be an
regulated/prohibited by your particular countries customs. Last but not least,
it's buyer beware. If it's too good to be true, it probably is.

I recently ordered a bridesmaid dress and then the bride changed her mind on the
dress. I tried to cancel and the only way to reach them was via email (the chat
just said to email and the phone is never answered) and they deliberately
ignored my email for four days so they could say my order had already shipped so
they wouldn't refund me ANYTHING. I'm trying to see if I can dispute the credit
card charge, but I'm not getting my hopes up. The dress did arrive and despite
having been "custom fit" to my (seamstress-measured) measurements, it
totally doesn't fit (the waist is too big and the bust/shoulders are too small).
I wouldn't trust their sizes and they won't accept returns, so it is a total

for me-

shipping was bad. they didn't give me any notification for 2 weeks,
and only did so AFTER i opened a ticket with them about this. to be fair, they
sent it the day after i i opened the ticket, but they should have done it 24

return policy is HORRIBLE. they took

Ok so i ordered the first dresses from them and they were WAY TOO SMALL but the
colors were ok and the style was ok. Since i had already spent $453 i thought
"well let me notify paypal and continue to fight for my money back and in

I ordered a dress through 'lightinthebox.com'. I got
suspicious when I found out that the item would be shipped from China.

When
I finally received the dress after a 1 month wait, the dress turned out to be a
very poor attempt to copy the dress on

the picture, so it only vaguely
resembled the dress I was hoping to get. There were multiple quality issues,
like:
- threads sticking out everywhere;
- streaks and rugged edges on
fabric;
- stains on fabric;
- a piece from back lock came off when I tried a
dress on;
Also, though I provided the right measurements, the dress didn't fit
me at all.
Needless to say I requested that the item will be returned and that
I should get refunded. After a week of discussion with

Oh man, I can't even begin to describe my frustration with this
"company"!

First of all, don't ever plan on calling them because the
number they give on their website goes to NO ONE! No one will answer, no matter
what day or time you call. Their online representatives are a total joke. It's
only to give the illusion that someone actually cares about your problem...and
unless you don't know how to navigate around the site, they are totally useless.
I asked a rep named "Jason" why no one answers their phone. He said,
"It's nite in China." That's great and all, but your website states that
it goes by EST, not China time. And when I did call at a time that was 10am in
China, guess what, STILL no answer! A legitimate company would have customer
service available by phone to be able to address problems directly. This is a
HUGE RED FLAG in my book.

something different in my invoice. Why are there two size charts floating around
there? A customer orders one thing and you send them something else...yet
somehow it's my fault for not measuring correctly? My measurements were correct

China. The shipping was more than any other site because it is China. Of the 5
dresses (which we all measured for and 2 girls even sent in the extra money to

returns. It was supposed to be a "one of a kind" dress for that
"special day"! What a crock. My dress was one size larger than my
friend's so I tole her she could wear mine. It was actually SMALLER than her

After ordering off Light in the Box I vowed if my dress was perfect I would
leave a review to try and tell people it isn't a scam..!!
My dress only took 15
days to come from the day of ordering and even though I read all these reviews
after ordering I was really worried it wouldn't come on time and that I would
have aload of problems, I didn't. I emailed them after a week for my shipping
date and got an answer straight away . I also did live chat on the website and
was very impressed with the way my query was answered. I would recommend this
site to anyone in the hope that they get the same treatment as I did because I
can't rate this site enough.. Thankyou LITB for making my wedding dress it is
spectacular and after the 12th September 2009 (my wedding day) I will update

I regularly buy online from companies in China. They are always quick to respond
to questions, update status regularly, and generally do their best to
communicate despite the language barrier.

Not LightInTheBox. There has been no
change in my order's status since 26 Sept 09. The 3 or 4 days they say it takes
to 'source' an order are long past. I have sent multiple emails, opened and
updated a Ticket, all to no avail. Knowing that there was a Holiday coming up, I
asked (before purchasing) how long the factory would be closed. They said from
01-Oct to 03-Oct.

It is now 07-Oct and LITB has not even acknowledged my
attempts to contact them, much less given me a status.

Besides being
disapppointing, it is sad that one company gives all the others in their country
a bad reputation by giving bad service. My regular suppliers go out of their way
to give customers the courtesy and attention they need. So far, this is opposite

UPDATE - 12-Oct-09
On October 8th (end of China National Holiday Week) the
status of my order changed to "shipped".

The dress arrived today. IT
IS AMAZING. The workmanship is exquisite. I ordered "A-line Sweetheart Short
/ Mini Elastic Woven Satin Organza Cocktail Dress (FSN0072)" in Ivory/Gold,
with an extra US20 for custom measurements. The only thing wrong with the dress
is that it is 2" too wide in the bust. The waist is a perfect fit, as is the
length. I'll have to have it altered but in hindsight, that was a kind of a
given. I also should have ordered it with straps or at least thought to ask
about getting extra fabric, which would have given a little flexibility.

still feel that LITB could have communicated better and just been up front about
being closed for the holiday. I WAS DEAD WRONG ABOUT THEM. They did indeed
deliver what was promised and with a level of quality I did not expect.

I purchased two bridesmaid dresses 3 months ago from Light in the
box. They arrived the following month. They were different to the picture on
the website but still really nice and we loved the colour. However, they were

Just wanted to let you know (re my post dated 19th Oct), I received a
reply the following day from Denny saying that they did not send out the 3rd lot
of dresses as advised and he would refund me. I held my breath... BUT I did
receive a refund today. I was refunded what I paid for the two dresses just not
the shipping - which I guess is fair enough (the chance you take). However with
the our currency being so strong at the mo I only got half back what I paid (due
to exchange rates and shipping costs). But it's better than nothing and I'm

business here in Australia and bought a "test" product. Once they had my
money I didnt hear a word...opened a dispute with paypal. I had to get on their
website and find their REAL PHONE NUMBER (their one that is listed never gets
answered--that is if it connects!) and was advised that they could only send my
product after i closed dispute with paypal. I told them I couldnt and wouldnt do
that so they said i would get a refund. Still no refund and they refuse to give

I am extremely dissatisfied with this company. I purchased dresses for my
bridesmaids in September.
I received my order, but much later than expected

were really reasonable. But let me tell you, it has NOT been worth the effort

Hi, I finally received my order today and I have to say the quality is pretty
good. It took just over 4 weeks from shipping date to get to Ireland so the
shipping times they advise are very optimistic. One piece of advice is to be
careful of the size you order...previous posters advised to get a jersey two
sizes bigger than your normal size...I am a medium so ordered XL, the fit on the
body is ok but I ordered a long sleeved jersey and the arms are a little bit
short so if ordering a long sleeve probably best to order 3 sizes bigger for the
extra lenght in the sleeve....better too long than short in the arm. If it's a
short sleeve than 2 sizes bigger would be fine.

I had the same problem! According to them, they needed me to send a copy of my
credit card with only the last 4 digits and my name. Allegedly it was required
to confirm my payment (which was processed through Paypal). After flooding them
with e-mails complaining for the delay, they eventually canceled my order and
gave me a refund. My advice is: if it’s taking too long and/or they’re
asking for suspicious additional information, just cancel the order and demand a
refund. If you used Paypal to pay, you have about 1,5 months to open a dispute
and ask for a refund so don’t let time pass you by.

Got the dress last week within 6 weeks of ordering it tailor made. fits
perfectly to my measurements. The style of the dress gives me a lovely shape and
makes me look slim tall and with a fantastic bust. (I am 5ft 3", chubby and
with a 36 B bust uk)

The dress definately looks like its worth a lot more,
the material has a comforting heavy feel to it and tailoring was perfect. I was
looking for faults as I did not think there was anyway the dress would be
perfect but alas no the seams and tailoring was perfect! I briefly mentioned the
material earlier and it was of a high quality and the coulour rich and
warm.

I choose Champagne but in hindsight I would have gone for Ivory. The
reason why is that it is hard to find matching veil and gloves and quite
expensive too. Please don't make the same mistake of getting mismaching colours

There is a wedding dress on the site which is THE one I want.
Unfortunatly, the only picture on there is that from the original designers
Pnina Tornai's catwalk. There are no pictures on the site of the ACTUAL dress
that would be made. Speaking online to them they said that it would be an exact
replica - someone sent me a picture of the back of the dress they ordered and to
me it looked nothing like it. Loads of people have written on the review page
asking for REAL pictures of this dress but none are available - so you wouldn't
know what you were getting until you paid for it and it may then be too late. I
am sure lightinthebox.com could please there customers and actually make this
dress and post a picture on it on the website.

Lite in the box is a must see. I order a beautiful dress for a wedding on
the basis that if it were a good service and a good dress I'd order my wedding

It was made to my exact measurements and in my choiceof colour. Based on a white
oscar de la renta dress,the dress I received was picture perfect and I saw no

ordering and though I was exremely nervous opening the box,I was not
disappointed. I have only ordered form the textiles catagory of the site so I

indeed. Also, they were nice and cheap. So far so good.
