iLinc Review: Online Meeting Software Review 2008

 ilinc review

Just get lots of feedback on our online meeting software review series so we decide to give further reviews on more brands. In fact, lots of people love vedio conferencing, since they can use body language to enhance the communication. Today we will give an review on iLinc to see how can it work for your training and communication plans.

Webinars are the latest in conference technology. These Webinars offer the best in convenience for people who can't travel to attend a conference. But their main purpose is for business professionals who wish to make conferences far more convenient and cost effective, and even environmentally friendly. By using a service like iLinc, a host can offer attendees on-the-spot training and share vital information over the computer. These live conferences are a great way to bring everyone together in the business world.

iLinc is one of the websites currently offering this video conferencing service. Brought to you by Qualcomm, a leading name in interactive innovations, iLinc offers the only enterprise-class web and video conferencing that allows its customers to select between a software-as-a-service (SaaS) rental model, or their traditional software purchase model in combination with iLinc hosting or on-location installation. This option has made iLinc a very popular destination for big business professionals who seek the services of a Webinar host, and those who simply wish to acquire the necessary software.

With iLinc, it's easy to display and collaborate on documents, websites, audio and video clips, applications, and much more with their video conferencing features. They also provide users with plenty of annotation tools and chat features for an all-around friendlier experience. They also offer photo or video ID, interactive whiteboarding, and tons of live features to help people connect in a real business-like atmosphere with their polling, feedback, questionnaires, surveys, and real-time participation meter features. You don't have to use any complicated plugins to use iLinc's service, nor do you need to know a lot about computers. You won't run into any firewall issues and you don't have to download additional add-ons.

iLinc easily automates many complicated and time-consuming features associated with Webinars. Their service will schedule meetings for you and even mail out the invitations and reminders. iLinc integrates perfectly with Microsoft Outlook, and supports both Windows and MAC platforms. The advanced tools offered by iLinc are a great change of pace for those who have used Webinar hosting sites previously only to be disappointed with the overall experience.

They even offer something for the environmentally conscience at iLinc. The only feature of its kind, The Green Meter automatically calculates and tracks CO2, cost, and travel reductions accrued by meeting online instead of traveling to a single destination. This allows people to keep track of the carbon that they're not putting into the atmosphere, and helps them to realize the difference made by using a service like iLinc.

Obviously, no service is perfect, and iLinc isn't without its flaws. They charge extra for each additional user and perhaps their biggest flaw, they require more evaluation of needs before making a decision to sign a contract for a year or more.

Advantages:
Shared web browsing -You can walk meeting attendees through your website. Anywhere you click, attendees follow.

Multi-point video - You can choose which attendees you want to view. The attendee who has the floor shows up in a dedicated area of the screen.

Works on the Mac - You can host and attend meetings from a Mac or PC.

Advanced recording features - iLinc has robust recording features that make it easy to record your online meetings. The software also has built-in editing functions.

Application, region, and desktop sharing - The person who has the floor can share specific applications, a designated region of their desktop, or their entire screen. iLinc desktop sharing offers meeting attendees flexibility and privacy.

Disadvantages
Confusing licensing options - You can use iLinc as a service (starting a $49/mo) or download the software to your own server. There are also several versions of the application designed for specific use cases - e.g. webinars, meetings, remote support, and online learning.

Pricing - Compared to WebEx MeetMeNow and Citrix GoToMeeting iLinc can be expensive.

Lacks a dedicated network - WebEx MeetMeNow uses a global private network to support real time communication. The speed, reliability, and security of the MediaTone network can't be matched.

I beg to differ with the comment "You won't run into any firewall
issues" in your post. In using iLinc for webinar presentations we have run
into multiple firewall issues. The screen would not display at all, and even
after that was corrected the system loses connection multiple times during
presentations. It appears to be highly unreliable. On one occasion it hung up
the presenting PC and we could not get back into the presentation. We were on
the phone with iLinc support for almost 2 hours in an attempt to get these
issues resolved and they haven’t been resolved yet.

Their online product is a disaster. During the demo, it looks great, however
just try to make it work in the real world. We have tons of bandwidth (10 M
and it still wasn't enough to have a smooth presenation or training session.
iLinc's response was to try and sell you more training. We changed to Citrix and
it was a breath of fresh air
